ZenBusiness Renews at $199. Our Renewal Notice Says $99.
For $99 a year, get a New York agent with a registered address on file, same-day scanning of legal documents, and compliance reminders before state deadlines.
Know the author before you weigh the argument. NY Registered Agent.org owns this page, charges $99 a year to act as your New York agent, and profits if you move the account here. The ZenBusiness numbers are a different sort of thing entirely. They are prices published by that company, copied out of our July 2026 review with nothing added and nothing shaved.
Credit Where It Belongs: The Software
Nobody in this category builds a better dashboard, and a page that pretended otherwise would forfeit your trust before you reached the pricing. ZenBusiness puts formation records, deadline tracking, and delivered documents behind one login, laid out so a first-time owner can work it unaided. If what you actually want is a single control panel for the whole company, ZenBusiness sells a real one. We sell nothing of the kind. We keep a New York agent seat and put one line on the invoice.
The Opening Rate and the One That Recurs
Bought by itself instead of riding along with a formation order, ZenBusiness asks $99 plus state fees to open the account and $199 annually from the second year on. Both numbers are published and neither is a trick. The distortion happens in the comparison: buyers set that opening rate beside everyone else's standing rate, and those measure different things. Year eight on their plan bills $199. Year eight on ours bills $99.
New York adds context that most comparison pages skip. Your LLC is not obliged to have a registered agent here in the first place. LLC Law § 302 says a company "may designate" one, and the permission is meant literally, because the state has already installed a process agent of its own that no filing can dislodge. A recurring $199, then, is not the price of compliance in this state. It is the price of a faster and more private delivery channel sitting on top of a free one that keeps running whether you buy anything or not.
Put the arithmetic in daylight. The only recurring charge New York actually levies on an LLC is the $9 biennial statement. One $199 renewal would settle that statement twenty-two times over, which is forty-four years of keeping a New York company current with Albany. Everything above roughly four and a half dollars a year is optional value, and optional value has to argue for itself.
| Element | ZenBusiness standalone | NY Registered Agent.org |
|---|---|---|
| Opening term | $99 plus state fees | $99 |
| Every renewal | $199 | $99 |
| Eight-year total | $1,492 plus state fees | $792 |
Seven hundred dollars of daylight across eight years, for a role New York describes the same way no matter whose name occupies it.
One Figure, and It Never Moves
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereThere is no upgrade tier here because none was ever designed. Ninety-nine dollars covers twelve months and the renewal notice repeats the figure. What sits inside it: papers handed to a person at our New York counter get scanned into your account before that business day ends, with an email chasing the upload; your designation shows our street address rather than your apartment building; and a reminder arrives before the calendar month when your biennial statement comes due. Exactly one optional charge exists in the entire service, $15 an item should you also want ordinary business mail scanned, disclosed now rather than found later on a statement.
One correction before our own math reads as a boast. BetterLegal advertises $90 a year, nine dollars beneath us, so $99 is not the floor in this market. What holds up is narrower: $99 sits in the lowest band of flat New York pricing, and it belongs to a short list of prices here that will still say $99 when year seven arrives.
Leaving ZenBusiness in New York: One Certificate, Thirty Dollars
The instrument is a Certificate of Change. Domestic LLCs use form DOS-1359-f, and the Division of Corporations wants $30 with it. It is an unusually flexible document. The same certificate can install a new agent, trade one provider for another, or strike the designation off your record altogether and leave you with the statutory default. A foreign LLC authorized to operate here files DOS-1362-f instead, so confirm your entity type before signing anything.
Order of operations still matters, though not for the usual reason. In most states a clumsy handoff opens a hole in coverage. New York cannot produce one, because service on the Secretary of State stays effective the entire time. What a clumsy handoff does produce is a stretch of weeks where documents travel to a company you have quit paying. Engage the replacement, file the certificate, wait for the public record to catch up, then close the ZenBusiness account. Our change of agent walkthrough covers the paperwork line by line.
Albany will never prompt you to do this, which is why so many owners never get around to it. The $199 will not prompt you either. Start the month before your renewal date, not the week after it clears.
